Yapily hires from OBIE for chief legal officer role

Open Banking infrastructure provider Yapily has appointed Selene Brett from the Open Banking Implementation Entity (OBIE) as its new chief legal officer.

In her new role as part of the executive team, Brett will have responsibility for leading the legal, risk and compliance functions to deliver strategic advice and efficiencies as Yapily looks to grow its global customer base and operations.

At the OBIE, she served as general counsel and company secretary, prior to which she held roles at Royal London, Aon and consumer champion Which? in the area of legal advisory services.

Brett said: “I am a huge believer in the transformative power of Open Banking for the benefit of consumers and businesses. It’s why I can’t wait to continue to play my part in the Open Banking ecosystem.

“Over the last five years, I’ve watched Yapily grow from a disruptive new market entrant into a market leading player. Card networks continue to monopolise the global movement of money and, although Open Banking has shifted the ownership of and access to financial data, there is clearly much more to be done.”

She added that Yapily is “breaking down the barriers to innovation in this space”.

Last year, Yapily established operations in France and also launched in Spain, following a $51 million Series B financing round in July.
