Senior Open Banking leaders from BBVA Mexico will reveal how Open Finance has been rolled out in Mexico, during a session on the Open Finance Stage at Open Banking Expo Canada on June 11.
The international use case, ‘Unlocking Open Finance in Mexico’, will be delivered by Alejandro Servin, head of Open Banking and Javier Garcia Lemus, head of product for Open Banking at BBVA Mexico.

Servin, who is responsible for driving Open Banking innovation at BBVA Mexico, was previously general manager in Mexico at Latin American Open Finance platform Belvo, and has experience founding and directing startups, including Pagaloop and Punto a Punto.
Prior to joining BBVA Mexico, Lemus was head of product at Plerk where he led the product team to a quick exit, and has also worked at Guros, Tierra y Armonia and Pixan Apps. He has worked on more than 125 projects in the past 11 years, creating and developing go-to-market strategies for companies entering new markets with digital products.
During the session, they will tell delegates about the transformative impact of Open Finance in the country and will reveal how they have leveraged international experiences to introduce products with strong value propositions in Mexico’s unregulated market.

They will also discuss what they see as the “critical need” for a regulatory framework that supports the growth and development of an Open Finance ecosystem.
When asked about Canada’s consumer-driven banking framework, as announced by Finance Canada in Budget 2024, Lemus told Open Banking Expo that solutions are “born from solving clients’ pain points”.
“If you fail to work with your clients and users, you are not going to solve their problems,” he said.
“The consumer-driven banking framework should encourage Canada’s Open Banking ecosystem to collaborate to create the solutions that users demand.”
