Ahead of the first Women in Open Banking meet-up on 1 March 2023, speaker Simon Lyons, chief strategy officer at OBConnect, told Open Banking Expo what leadership means to him and what he would like attendees to take away from the panel session.
1. What are you looking forward to most about the first WiOB meet-up?
Seeing friendly faces – new and old – and the movers and shakers in Open Banking. This event has had a phenomenal response.
2. In 20 words or less, what does ‘leadership’ mean to you?
Motivate, empower, support and trust. If you get all those in a mindset, you have a good place to start.
3. Why is cultivating your leadership skills so vital, regardless of experience or long-term ambition?
You will never know if you can progress in this world unless you take decisions – every decision is a risk, every risk taken is by a leader. Never stand still.
4. What would you like attendees to take away from your session at the meet-up?
Confidence, a little more belief and an understanding that we are all very different and do things differently. One size does not fit all.
