Marie Walker, open futurist at Raidiam, answers our quickfire questions on Open Banking and Open Finance developments and trailblazers.
1. What development in the Open Banking space, in your opinion, should people be paying attention to?
If we can get commercial APIs right – along the lines of the principles put forward by JROC – then everyone involved will have a shared interest in really driving adoption.
2. Are there any areas where pace has been slower than expected?
I’d turn that around and say that there have been plenty of areas where expectations have been unrealistic. How long did it take for contactless payments – or mobile phones – to catch on?
3. Any organisations or players you feel are the ones to watch, trailblazing in this space?
There are so many fintechs – and banks too – doing amazing things… I might give the nod to the Brazilian ecosystem, which seems to have a really healthy collaboration between different stakeholders, and is making some pretty ambitious moves towards the wider idea of Open Finance.
Marie Walker is speaking on the Future Stage at Open Banking Expo UK and Europe, which takes place on 18-19 October in London. Get your ticket for the must-attend event in Open Banking, Open Finance and Open Payments here.
